Japanese automaker Toyota introduced the 2018 Yaris sedan at the Auto Expo 2018 and the car is expected to be launched in the next few months. The news here is that the Toyota dealerships in Delhi have started taking the advanced bookings for the upcoming Yaris at a booking amount of Rs 50,000 and the amount is fully refundable. According the sources, the automaker is planning to launch the sedan by the end of April this year with the deliveries commencing from May 2018.
Under the hood, the 2018 Toyota Yaris will initially come with only a petrol engine option that will come mated to both a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed CVT automatic transmission option. The expected engine to empower the sedan is a 1.5-litre motor albeit with dual VVT-i technology that currently comes with the Etios sedan by the automaker. However, the engine is expected to be tuned to provide better performance than the current 88.76 Bhp and will also be upgradable to the new BSVI standards.
In terms of features, the Japanese automaker will offer the premium sedan with a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors with reverse parking camera, disc brakes on all wheels, and powered driver’s seat. The interesting thing here is that none of its competitors in the segment offer these above mentioned features currently. Apart from these, the Yaris will also be offered with roof-mounted AC vents with ambient lighting, cruise control, paddle shifters behind the steering wheel for changing gears and rain-sensing wipers.
Though, Toyota has confirmed that 7 airbags, ABS and EBD will be offered as standard safety features on the 2018 Yaris. However, the official Toyota website says that the car will also feature vehicle stability control, traction control, and hill start assist as the safety features with the premium sedan. The website also reveals that the official bookings for the Yaris will start in the month of April 2018 but since the bookings have started with original dealer’s receipt, hence making it official. Dimension wise, the revealed 2018 Yaris measures 4425mm in length, 1730mm in width and 1475mm in height with a 2550mm wheelbase looking as the elder sibling of Toyota Etios. Looking at the sedan, it won’t be wrong to say that the automaker is eyeing the C2-segment with this premium offering in the country.
Toyota had revealed two variants of the Yaris at the Auto Expo - V and VX however, there’s no official word regarding the automaker offering more variants of the premium sedan in the country. The official date of launch is expected to be announced in the coming days and the price bracket is likely to be somewhere between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 14 lakh. When launched, the 2018 Toyota Yaris will take against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, new Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market.
