2023 Hyundai Verna Won’t Offer A Diesel Engine | V3Cars

Hyundai recently opened bookings for their upcoming Verna sedan for a token amount of Rs. 25,000. Hyundai also revealed the powertrain options of the new Verna, which confirmed the absence of a diesel engine. Like its rivals, the new Verna will be a petrol-only offering. 2023 Hyundai Verna Without A Diesel Engine

The current generation Hyundai Verna and Honda City are the only sedan in the C-segment that offers a diesel engine. However, Honda have announced that they will drop the diesel engine option from the City in March 2023. Meanwhile, Hyundai have confirmed the new 2023 Verna will not get a diesel engine. It is worth noting that the diesel option contributed to over 40% of Verna’s yearly sales.

2023 Verna

The current Verna comes with a 1.5L turbo diesel engine that was recently updated to meet BS6 phase-2 and road driving emission (RDE) standards. Since the updated diesel engine is also offered in the Creta and Venue SUVs, Hyundai could have offered the same engine in the Verna as well. We are yet to know the reason behind Hyundai’s decision to drop the diesel engine from the upcoming Verna.

2023 Verna To Offer 2 Petrol Engine Options

In the current Verna, Hyundai offers a 1.5L normal petrol engine and a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. However, with the 2023 Verna, Hyundai have something special for buyers looking for more performance. The 2023 Verna will come with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine that could offer around 160PS of power and 253Nm of torque. This engine will come with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The 1.5L normal petrol engine, on the other hand, will continue to come with a 6-speed manual and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

2023 Hyundai Verna Launch Timeline

Hyundai are likely to launch the 2023 Verna in March 2023. That’s when Honda will also bring the updated City with BS6 phase-2 compliant petrol engines and more features. The new Verna will continue to rival other sedans in the segment like the Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
