Maruti Suzuki Test The Upcoming Jimny 5 Door In Ladakh | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki showcased the Jimny Sierra at the 2020 Auto Expo and since then, people are waiting for it to launch in the country. While the Jimny 3 door is not coming to India anytime soon, its 5 door iteration has been caught on test in Ladakh along with the Grand Vitara and Mahindra Thar.

2023 Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 Door

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door looks similar to the 3 door model, albeit with 2 extra doors and a longer wheelbase. The test car is wrapped under camouflage with HR 26 registration plates. Up front, it gets LED projector headlamps that flank the 5 slot grille. The lower part of the bumper houses round fog lamps.

Around the side, we can see the addition of the rear doors and squarish windows. While it's hard to gauge, the width of the Jimny 5 door seems identical to that of the Jimny 3 door.

On the inside, we expect the Jimny 5-door to offer an updated dashboard, new seat upholstery and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system. We also expect the Jimny 5-door to retain the capable 4-wheel-drive system along with locking differentials.

In terms of powertrain, the Jimny 5-door could use the same 1.5L K15C petrol engine seen in the Jimny 3-door. It produces 102PS of power at 6000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4000rpm. In the Jimny 3-door, this engine comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. For the Jimny 5-door, Maruti Suzuki could replace the ageing 4-speed unit with a new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Maruti Suzuki are likely to reveal the Jimny 5-door at the 2023 Auto Expo. It will rival other upcoming 5-door SUVs like the Mahindra Thar 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door. Both the Thar 5-door and Gurkha 5-door were spied recently and could hit showrooms in 2023.
