Mahindra have launched the 2026 Thar OG with significant mechanical, safety and feature upgrades. Prices for the updated Thar 3-door SUV start at Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), which is the same as the outgoing model. The updated SUV, which is now called the Thar OG, gets a stiffer body-on-frame chassis, revised suspension, electronic power steering, terrain modes, 6 airbags and all-wheel disc brakes, among other changes.

The biggest update, however, comes under the bonnet, with the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L diesel engines receiving significant power and torque increases. Meanwhile, the 1.5L diesel’s output remains unchanged.
The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is priced from Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). Its starting price matches that of the outgoing Thar despite the extensive mechanical, safety and feature upgrades. Here are the variant-wise prices:
Note: These introductory prices apply to vehicles delivered by November 30, 2026.

The Thar OG uses Mahindra’s stiffer M_Glyde 4G body-on-frame platform. Its revised rear suspension adds a Watts link, which Mahindra say improves cornering stability and control.
Mahindra claim the Thar OG is the first body-on-frame vehicle to feature frequency-dependent dampers. These are available on the ZXT variant. They respond differently to slow body movements and quick bumps, aiming to improve ride comfort while maintaining control.
The Thar OG gets electric power steering across all 3 variants, replacing the outgoing model’s hydraulic setup. Mahindra say it reduces steering effort and improves precision and the steering wheel’s tendency to return to centre after a turn.

The 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L diesel engines have received substantial performance upgrades.
The 1.5L diesel remains unchanged at 119PS and 300Nm. The 2.2L diesel is up from 132PS and 300Nm to 152PS and 330Nm. The 2.0L turbo petrol now makes 162PS and 330Nm. Previously, it made 152PS and either 300Nm with a manual or 320Nm with an automatic.

The 2026 Thar now gets terrain modes, which can be activated at the touch of a button. These modes optimise various vehicle systems to suit different driving conditions.
The available modes are:
These modes are intended to simplify driving on challenging surfaces by configuring the vehicle’s systems for the selected terrain.
Both 4WD variants also get a button-operated rear electronic locking differential to help maintain traction when a rear wheel slips.

Mahindra have also significantly upgraded the Thar’s safety equipment, but in the ZXT variant. It now gets 6 airbags.
Other additions include:

The expanded ESP suite is designed to improve the Thar's stability and traction across both road and off-road conditions.
AXT and LXT variants have 2 front airbags, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes while
The updated Thar gets a revised exterior while retaining its familiar boxy silhouette. It now features new LED headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs, LED ice-cube fog lamps and cornering lamps.
The front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned, while the SUV gets new LED tail lamps and a revised grille with an offset Thar wordmark.
Mahindra have also widened the Thar's track to improve its stance. The updated SUV is now equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels in the top ZXT variant, giving it a more aggressive appearance.
Inside, the Thar gets brown leatherette seats, adding a more premium touch to the cabin.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine is available exclusively with the AXT variant.
The 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L diesel engines are available in 2 variants – LXT and the new ZXT. Mahindra say the ZXT variant adds 15 additional features over the lower variants. More details to come soon.
