2026 Tiago AMT To Get Rotary Drive Selector

One of the biggest changes visible in the teaser is the replacement of the conventional AMT gear lever seen in the current model with a rotary drive selector borrowed from the 2026 Nexon AMT variants. Instead of the older gear lever featuring ‘+’ and ‘-’ shift slots for manual operation, the new setup comprises a circular dial with R, N and D markings for Reverse, Neutral and Drive. The rotary drive selector is surrounded by a piano black panel and 2 wireless phone chargers just ahead of it. 

Paddle Shifter Expected On Top Variants

The teaser also confirms the addition of paddle shifters for the Tiago AMT. While Tata are yet to reveal the variant-wise feature distribution, we expect the paddle shifters to be limited to the top variant of the Tiago petrol-AMT and CNG-AMT, similar to the current Punch AMT variants.

These paddle shifters will allow drivers to manually upshift or downshift the AMT gearbox without taking their hands off the steering wheel. While paddle shifters have the potential to make the driving experience feel more engaging, AMTs are not known for offering sporty performance like conventional torque converters (TC) or dual-clutch automatic transmissions (DCT). So expect these paddle shifters to function more as manual gear selectors rather than offering genuinely sporty performance.

What’s interesting is the fact that none of the Tiago’s rivals, such as the Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10 Nios or the Maruti Ignis, offer rotary drive selectors or paddle shifters. In fact, none of them offer a CNG-automatic powertrain either.

Further, the Tata Altroz CNG-AMT, which was launched recently, continues to offer the conventional AMT gear lever.

Most Comprehensive Cabin Update So Far

The addition of the rotary selector and paddle shifters forms part of a much larger cabin overhaul for the 2026 Tiago and Tiago EV.

Unlike a typical mid-life update, Tata have given the Tiago twins a thoroughly redesigned interior featuring a layered dashboard design, floating-style displays and a revised centre console layout.

The updated hatchbacks now get a larger 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a new fully digital instrument cluster, slimmer AC vents and Tata’s newer 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo.

The redesigned centre console also adds gloss black trim and dual wireless charging pads. However, these updates have come at the cost of open storage space available in the centre console of the outgoing model.

Features such as automatic climate control, cruise control, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers will be carried forward into the new model. We also expect the top variant to offer rear AC vents and a 6-speaker audio system with tweeters mounted on the A-pillars.

Despite the cabin redesign, the rear seats still appear to miss out on adjustable headrests and a rear centre armrest, which could disappoint some buyers prioritising rear-seat comfort.

Tiago EV Gets Additional Features

While both hatchbacks share most of their cabin layout and features, the Tiago EV facelift gets a few EV-specific touches. These include Tata EV branding on the steering wheel and a repositioned push-button start switch placed beside the steering column.

Tata Motors are expected to reveal full variant-wise features, specifications and prices of the 2026 Tiago and Tiago EV on May 28.
