Toyota have unveiled the all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking the brand’s entry into the mass-market battery electric vehicle (BEV) space in India. Prices are yet to be revealed and will be revealed at a later date. However, bookings for the Urban Cruiser Ebella are now open at Toyota dealerships and online.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is derived from Toyota’s Urban SUV Concept and offers buyers another electrified mobility option alongside strong hybrids.

Toyota are offering the Urban Cruiser Ebella with 2 battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh. The larger 61kWh battery delivers 174PS and 189Nm, with a claimed range of up to 543km on a single charge (ARAI-certified). The smaller battery produces 144PS while torque remains unchanged. Both versions use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and feature front-wheel drive.

Charging options include AC charging, DC fast charging (CCS2) and a portable charging cable, with smart charging features accessible via Toyota’s i-Connect connected car platform.

Design And Interior Highlights

On the outside, the Urban Cruiser Ebella gets Toyota’s hammerhead front design, an aerodynamic SUV silhouette, premium LED lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin focuses on comfort and technology with dual-tone interiors, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting with 12 colour options, sliding and reclining rear seats and a panoramic roof. A JBL sound system further enhances the in-cabin experience.

Technology And Safety

Toyota’s electric SUV features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety features include Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags and a 360-degree camera.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Expected Prices And Rivals

Given its badge-engineered relationship with the Maruti e Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is expected to command a slight premium. We expect prices to start at around Rs. 19 lakh and go up to approximately Rs. 23 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Urban Cruiser Ebella will compete in the fast-growing electric C-SUV space. Key rivals include the Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
