Tata Motors have updated their 2 popular nameplates — Punch B1-segment SUV and Altroz B2-segment hatchback — with BS6 phase-2 compliant and E20 fuel-ready powertrains. Both cars now also offer better performance and new features.

The 1.2L normal petrol engine of the Punch and Altroz and 1.2L turbo petrol engine in the Altroz are now BS6 phase-2 compliant. Furthermore, both engines now also comply with the upcoming E20 fuel, which incorporates 20% ethanol blended with petrol. Tata Motors also revealed that they have improved the low-end performance of the Punch and Altroz and it will result in a smoother driving experience in the lower gears.

While the Punch remains a petrol-only offering, the Altroz continues to come with a 1.5L turbo diesel engine. The updated engine now complies with the BS6 phase-2 and road driving emission (RDE) standards.
With the update, both the Punch and Altroz now offer idle engine start/stop as standard. This feature cuts off the engine when you are standing still and turns it on again when you press the clutch/brake. It not only enhances the fuel efficiency but also reduces emissions.
