In this July 2023 cars sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change for the 20 top-selling cars of July 2023. Using this data, we will also provide our observations and insights on the reasons for significant improvements or declines in sales, where relevant.
July 2023 - 20 Top-Selling Cars YoY Change
- Mahindra’s Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N reported the best combined growth figure, with a gain of over 176% in terms of YoY comparison.
- The next best YoY performer in July 2023 was the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, with a growth of over 70%.
- The Swift was the best-selling car in India in July 2023, with almost 17,900 units sold. It is a growth of 2.04% from July 2022, when about 17,500 units of the Swift were dispatched.
- The top 13 best selling cars in July 2023 sold well over 10,000 units each.
- The Maruti WagonR was the top loser in the YoY comparison analysis with over 42% decline in YoY numbers.
- The Alto lost sales by 21.69% in the YoY comparison analysis for the month of July. The Alto pair was followed by Venue with a 16.15% decline in the YoY comparison analysis for the month of July.
- Half of the models on the top 20 best-selling list in July 2023 are from Maruti and the homegrown carmaker claimed the top 4 spots.

July 2023 - 20 Top-Selling Cars MoM Change
- The Seltos was the top-performer in terms of MoM comparison analysis for the month of July, with over 172% increase in dispatches compared to June 2023.
- The Ertiga was the second best performer in the MoM comparison for the month of July, with a near 70.41% growth in sales.
- Most of the top-20 selling cars in the list saw a MoM growth in dispatch numbers.
- The Alto was the top losing car in the MoM comparison with a decline of 37%.
- The Alto was followed by the WagonR, which saw a decline of 25.81% in the MoM comparison for July.
- Maruti launched the B2-segment SUV Fronx in June and 7,991 units were sold in June. But in the month of July its dispatches grew by 65.44%.
