Fourth-gen Skoda Octavia India Launch Delayed Further

The fourth-gen Skoda Octavia was slated to go on sale in India by September 2020, but the launch was delayed to Q1 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Now, the wait for the fourth-gen sedan has just got longer. Zac Hollis, Skoda’s Director in India, replying to a tweet has confirmed that the new Octavia will go on sale in India in Q2 2021. He said, “ I can’t reveal the specification at this stage but we will bring the car to the market in Q2 next year.”

The fourth-gen Octavia has already been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions. It looks similar to the euro-spec model. It features the latest iteration of Skoda’s butterfly grille with a thick chrome surround flanked by new single-piece sleek LED headlamps. The bumper is also new and it looks similar to what we have seen on the Superb facelift.

The Octavia’s side profile looks aggressive with a sharp shoulder line running across the length of the sedan and a coupe-like sloping roofline. Coming to the rear, it gets sleek tail lamps flanking the Skoda lettering in the centre of the boot lid.

Talking about the dimensions, the new Octavia will be bigger than before. Here is a comparison.

On the inside, the Octavia gets a redesigned cabin finished in black-beige upholstery which looks more premium than before. Features on offer should include a digital instrument cluster, a freestanding large touchscreen infotainment system, multiple airbags, dual-zone AC, panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors and connected car tech.

Under the hood, the Octavia is likely to be offered with petrol engines only. It is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 190PS and 320Nm mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Skoda might also offer a smaller 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine on the new Octavia. This engine makes 150PS and 250Nm. Skoda already offers this engine on the Skoda Karoq, where it comes mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic.

Prices of the new Octavia are expected to range from Rs 18 lakh to Rs 26 lakh. It will continue to take on the likes of the Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic. Skoda currently offers the previous-gen Octavia RS 245 in India which is priced at Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom India).
