Geneva 2018: Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Breaks Cover
Ending all the anticipations, German auto major Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the 4-door AMG GT at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show 2018. The company’s first 4-door AMG GT Coupe takes inspiration from the SLS AMG and the new-gen AMG GT models. The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is one of the new models that has been fully designed and developed by AMG, the performance wing of Mercedes-Benz. The key concept of offering a 4-door coupe was to offer a perfectly balanced performance oriented and practical car. According to AMG the 4-Door GT Coupe is a model that can be used as a regular vehicle on daily basis, while also being a superb track ready car.
As already mentioned, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has got its styling inspired by the AMG GT. It flaunts the patent Panamericana front grille and the patent long nose. However, the difference comes in the form of the increased wheelbase to accommodate 4-door and off-course the rear doors.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door will come with two engine choices, namely the 4.0L V8 bi-turbocharged engine in two states of tune. The first offers 639 bhp and 900 Nm, sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds and offers a top speed of 315 kmph. The second variant will offer 585 bhp and 800 Nm, propels the car from 0-100 kmph in 3.4 seconds and offers a top speed of up to 310 kmph. This is simply awesome for a 4-door coupe which can carry 4 to 5 occupants. When not racing and simply cruising, the car switches off 4 cylinders out of the total 8 to improve fuel efficiency.
There’s also a 3.0L 6-cylinder hybrid mill that offers 435 bhp and 520 Nm. It is paired to an electric motor that adds another 22 bhp and 250 Nm. The car offers a top speed of 285 kmph and can run from 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds. The AMG GT 4-Door coupe is also endowed with an all 4 wheel drive system along with limited slip differential on the rear axle. There’s a 'drift mode' as standard on the 'S' variant and as option on other variants. The drift mode, sends all the power churned to the rear wheels. There is also the active rear-wheel steering standard on V8 models and as an option on the 6-cylinder model.
On the inside, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe flaunts gets two 12.3 inch displays which are offered as standard on the V8 models and comes as optional for the 6-cylinder variant. The displays offer access to the infotainment system, connectivity options and all other important operation controls of the car. Mercedes-AMG also offers rear seating options with a bench seat to accommodate three passengers or two individual seats for two passengers. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe also boasts of partial autonomous driving capabilities.
Mercedes-AMG will start delivering the first orders of the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe this summer. In the market, it will rival the Porsche Panamera.
