Hyundai India have commenced the production of the Exter and rolled out the first unit of the small B1-segment SUV from their manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur. Read on to know more about the upcoming Hyundai Exter.

Hyundai have rolled out the first unit of the Exter and it wears the signature ‘Ranger-Khaki’ colour, which is exclusive to the Exter. The upcoming Exter will complete Hyundai’s SUV portfolio in the country and serve as the most-affordable Hyundai SUV offering. Within the brand portfolio, it will slot between the Grand i10 Nios hatchback and Venue B2-segment SUV.

At the front, the Exter offers a split LED headlight setup like other Hyundai SUVs. The LED DRLs up front as well as the tail lamps at the rear feature H-shaped lighting elements. The main headlamps sit in a rectangular cluster lower down on the bumper. Around the side, the Exter offers machined alloy wheels, chunky roof rails and flared rear fenders. At the rear, the tailgate gets a prominent skid plate, which completes the SUV look.
The Hyundai Exter offers a couple of interesting features like an electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster, dual-camera dash cam, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and cruise control.

Hyundai have confirmed the powertrain details of the new Exter small SUV. The Exter will offer a 1.2L normal petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Buyers seeking fuel efficiency and relatively lower running costs will also get the option of a 1.2L normal petrol-CNG powertrain option mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. At launch, the Exter will not offer a turbo petrol engine. However, Hyundai could offer the Exter with the Grand i10 Nios’ 1.0L turbo petrol engine at a later date.
Hyundai Exter bookings are currently open and the launch is slated for July 10. The Hyundai Exter will go up against the likes of the Tata Punch, Citroen C3 and the non-turbo variants of the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
