by Mahesh Yadav on Monday, Jul 12 2021

Recently a variant of the new Hyundai i20 was spotted at a dealer stockyard with steel wheels and no wheel covers. The i20 currently starts from the Magna variant and this new variant may become the new base Era variant.

Here are the features that are available in the i20’s current base variant (Magna) but NOT available in the upcoming spied variant:

    • Halogen projector headlamps (reflector headlamps available in Era)
    • Steering-mounted controls
    • Music system with Bluetooth
    • LED DRLs
    • Rear power windows
    • Remote central locking
    • Power-adjustable outside mirrors (internal adjustments available in Era)
    • Wheel covers
    • 15-inch wheels (14-inch available in Era)
    • Tilt and telescopic adjustments
    • Front passenger vanity mirror
    • Front centre armrest
    • Rear AC vents

Considering the lack of features mentioned above, the new Era variant may carry an ex-showroom price of around Rs. 6.0 lakh with the 1.2L normal petrol engine and Rs. 7.4 lakh with the 1.5L turbo-diesel engine. The Magna variant with the i20 petrol currently costs Rs. 6.85 lakh while the Magna diesel costs Rs. 8.21 lakh.

The i20 competes with the Maruti Suzuki Nexa Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz. In the last month, the Altroz recorded 6,350 dispatches while Hyundai shipped 6,333 units of the i20. This new addition should help Hyundai maintain its lead over its main rival, the Altroz. The Baleno and Glanza together clocked almost 17,300 units in June 2021. So, they are currently beyond the i20’s reach.
