A leaked patent document reveals Maruti Suzuki have trademarked the name ‘Engage’. While there’s no official confirmation yet, Maruti could use the Engage nameplate for their upcoming 3-row SUV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross.

A couple of days ago, R.C Bhargava, the chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), revealed that the carmaker would launch a new 3-row SUV in the next 2 months and that it would be sourced from Toyota. In all likelihood, the upcoming 3-row SUV could be a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. While Toyota continue to offer the Innova Hycross as an MPV, the latest iteration of the Innova has several styling cues to pass off an SUV as well. Maruti Suzuki could give the Innova Hycross a slight redesign along with a Suzuki badge and market it as an SUV. Now, a leaked patent document reveals that MSIL have trademarked the name ‘Engage’ and the new nampeplate is likely to find its way onto the tailgate of the Innova Hycross-based Maruti SUV.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota already share 2 models in India. These include the Baleno and Glanza B2-segment hatchbacks and the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which are C-segment SUVs. Like these 4 models, the new Maruti Suzuki Engage is likely to feature a couple of cosmetic changes to differentiate itself from the Innova Hycross. Since Maruti Suzuki are likely to market their rebadged version of the Innova as an SUV, we expect the carmaker to offer a prominent design for the nose along with skid plates at the front and rear. Furthermore, it could also offer a different set of LED headlights and tail lights along with a new design for the alloy wheels.

Since the upcoming Engage 3-row SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be sourced from Toyota, it is likely to carry the same powertrain options as the Toyota Innova Hycross. Toyota offer the Innova Hycross with a choice of 2 engine options — 2.0L normal petrol and 2.0L strong hybrid petrol.
Take a look at the specifications of the Innova Hycross:
The upcoming Engage 3-row SUV will rival other D2-segment SUVs and MPVs like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, Kia Carnival and, of course, the Toyota Innova Hycross.
