Is This The Hyundai Bayon-based Crossover For The Indian Market? | V3Cars

We recently dug deep into the Bayon to understand how it could fit into the Hyundai India portfolio. We think it is a solid competitor for the Fronx, which has created a healthy sub-segment in the 4m SUV space. We also gave the expected price range of the Bayon, should it go on sale in India sometime later this year.

Now, we have a new problem on our hands. V3Cars have recently spotted a car with crossover-ish proportions similar to those of the Bayon. But, the tail lamps don’t match. In fact, the tail lamps look similar to those of the Hyundai Palisade SUV. Meanwhile, the international-spec Bayon gets sleek, angular connected tail lamps.

We can’t say for sure if it’s the Bayon even though it has similar proportions. But the TN number plate increases the probability of it being a Hyundai car.

If you look closely, you’ll see that the tyres also look like 195-section or 205-section at most. The Bayon gets 205-section tyres in its top variants and 195 in the mid trims. Now, this could indeed be the Fronx-rival we are expecting from Hyundai, but the people who saw it up close say that it was certainly longer than the Fronx but not longer than the Creta or Grand Vitara. It looked about as long as the Kushaq and in person, it appeared a shade wider than the i20. All of these bits of information line up with it being the Bayon.

But…, those tail lamps! If Hyundai aren’t going to chop the Bayon down to 4 metres, then why would they change the tail lamp design? It would be more cost effective to just bring the same car with the same proportions and panels to the Indian market.
