Jayem Neo EV spotted in Ola Cabs livery
Tata is working to launch the Nano based Electric Vehicle in the country. The EV has already been spied testing during a public road test, hinting that a market launch was around the corner. Now, the latest news is that a Jayem Neo EV based on the Tata Nano has been spotted again in the production form. The model in question features Ola Cabs decals and permanent registration plates, hinting towards a near future launch in the Indian market. The cars are assembled at Jayem's facility in Coimbatore.
According to the reports in the market, Ola Cabs is all set to to induct the Nano based Jayem Neo EV in their fleet. The first batch of these models will comprise of 400 units, and are likely to begin operating in the region of Hyderabad followed by other cities later. Soon to be launched Jayem Neo EV is based on the Tata Nano and has been developed as a part of an agreement between both the companies where Tata Motors supplies body shells of the Nano and Jayem Automotive plugs in their electric motor mated to an automatic transmission. However, the 48 Volt electric motor capable of producing 23 hp maximum power has been sourced from another company known as Electra EV. It is the same company which provides powertrains for the Tigor EV and Tiago EV.
In terms of looks, the Jayem Neo EV looks completely different from any of the Tata cars. The model boasts Jayem badging at the front and rear of the vehicle. Other than the Jayem logo, the model also receives the Ola Cabs decals as the spied images show. However, the image doesn’t show any difference in the designing from the Tata Nano apart from the logo and decals.;
Other features include a black bonnet garnish with the Jayem logo in the centre, smoked headlights along with black ORVMs and door handles. The car will also come with a tail gate while the Neo badge has a similar font to that of the original Nano. Apart from these, the tail lights have been carried over unchanged and so are the front and rear bumpers, which feature a black mesh design as well as the 9-spoke alloy wheels that are identical to those seen on the Nano, except for the Jayem logo in the centre.
Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives first showcased the Neo EV at Auto Expo 2018 earlier in February this year. Under the joint venture with Tata Motors, Jayem Automotives are also responsible for the upcoming performance models from Tata, dubbed as the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP. The Tiago JTP was recently spotted testing on the roads, while the automaker has not confirmed anything reading the launch of the car till date. However, the official launch date of the Neo EV is still not confirmed but looking at the preparations, we can expect it to happen anytime soon.
