The Jeep Compass was destined to be a great success since the beginning. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India (FCAI) launched the iconic American SUV brand, Jeep in India in the hope of good business in the highly popular Indian SUV space. However, the very expensive price tags of the initial Jeep products kept buyers away from the greatly favoured brand. Things changed with the news of the launch of the first India-made Jeep product, the Compass. The competitively priced Jeep Compass garnered great bookings even before it launched in India, and its aggressive starting price point post its launch ensured that its demands keep on increasing.
The result is clear the new made in India Jeep Compass SUV is an instant success in India and has already crossed the 10,000 sales mark in India. Thus, the Compass sold 10,000 units in just four months post its launch in India, which is remarkable feat considering its premium positioning.
The Jeep Compass was launched in the car market of India on 31st July, 2017. It is manufactured at Fiat India’s Ranjangaon facility. The Compass is currently the most affordable Jeep model in India, as it is locally manufactured with about 65 percent localization level. Moreover, India is the global production hub of the Jeep Compass for all the right-hand drive (RHD) international markets. FCAI has already exported 600 units of the India-made Jeep Compass to Japan and Australia.
The Jeep Compass is available in three trims - Sport, Longitude and Limited. It comes in both petrol and diesel engine choices. The Jeep Compass gets its design inspiration from the Grand Cherokee, which makes it so alluring, while it shares its underpinnings with the entry-level Renegade. Despite being affordable, the Compass represents all the patent Jeep characteristics, making it a perfect buy for all the Indian Jeep aficionados.
The Compass received more than 10,000 bookings within a month of its launch. While commenting on achieving this sales milestone, the President and MD of FCA India, Kevin Flynn said that the Jeep Compass is proving itself to be a popular SUV in a short time. The company is proud to cross the 10,000 sales milestone, and is confident to continue the great sales momentum in the New Year.
However, Jeep has issued a recall of the new Compass in India to fix a faulty safety feature. Jeep India has recalled 1200 units of the Compass in order to replace the front passenger airbag which might contain 'loose fasteners', which can affect the proper deployment of the airbag on the event of a collision. In a recent company statement, Jeep has said that the recall is expected to affect a very small number (about 1 percent) of the popular Compass SUV globally. Nevertheless, this safety issue related recall has not affected the demands of the Jeep Compass in India, and the bookings are said to be spiraling. Thus, we can expect the very capable Jeep Compass to be a great success in India in the long run as well.
