In this July 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all hatchbacks in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all hatchbacks for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.

Hatchbacks Segment July 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

Maruti Suzuki may not have a strong grip in the SUV and sedan segment, but they have the hatchback segment under their command
This is evident as Maruti Suzuki have 4 of the top 5 best selling hatchbacks and 7 out of the top 10
The WagonR maintains its top spot with very little marketing expenditure
After the recent update, the Baleno’s sales figures have risen from 9.5% in June 2022 YoY to 22% in July 2022
Excluding the low-volume Polo, the Santro was the biggest loser this month as well
The S-Presso was among the biggest losers last month but after the recent update, it saw a decent 65% rise in dispatch numbers to become the 2nd top gainer after the Celerio.
Honda Jazz, with 42% decline, and Alto, with 30% decline, are the 2nd and 3rd biggest losers. We expect the Alto’s sales figures to improve after the launch of the updated model in August
If the Santro continues to perform poorly in monthly factory dispatches, then this may hint at a potential exit of this model from the Indian car market

Hatchback Segment July 2022 Car Sales - MoM Change

S-Presso, Glanza and Ignis are the 3 top gainers, posting an MoM growth of 1628%, 162% and 23.6%, respectively
Among notable top MoM losers are Santro, Kwid and Jazz, with their dispatches declining 57%, 48.1% and 42.5%, respectively
We are not considering the Volkswagen Polo in this analysis because it has been discontinued and only pending orders are being delivered by the manufacturer
