Kia are reportedly evaluating 2 new SUVs for India that could address gaps in their current portfolio. One is expected to sit between the Syros and Seltos, while the other could be positioned between the Seltos and upcoming Sorento.

The move comes as Kia prepares to expand its India lineup with products such as the next-generation Sonet, Sorento and hybrid powertrain options. The 2 new SUVs could arrive around 2028-29, although their timelines and specifications are yet to be confirmed.
For buyers, the key significance is that Kia could offer a more gradual progression through its SUV range instead of making customers jump directly from the Syros to the Seltos or from the Seltos to the much larger Sorento.
Kia currently have a large gap between some of their major SUV offerings. The Syros sits below the Seltos, while the upcoming Sorento is expected to be positioned above the Seltos.

The first new model is expected to address the large gap between the upper variants of the Syros and the Seltos. The upcoming SUV is likely to be based on the Hyundai Bayon-based SUV, which is expected to launch around October-end. When launched, it will take on the Maruti Victoris, Renault Duster and the Nissan Tekton, among others.

The Kia C1-segment SUV could measure around 4.2 metres in length, giving Kia a product positioned above the compact Syros but below the Seltos.

For buyers, this could be an interesting middle ground. The Syros offers a relatively compact footprint, while the Seltos has moved further upmarket with its latest generation. A 4.2-metre SUV could provide more cabin and boot space than the Syros without requiring buyers to step up to the Seltos.
Kia have not confirmed whether this model will be a conventional SUV, crossover or another body style. However, given Indian buyers’ strong preference for SUVs, an SUV-based product appears to be the most logical direction.
The new C1-segment model could use Kia’s existing petrol and diesel powertrains, while an electrified option could also be considered at a later stage.
However, Kia have not revealed any technical specifications or confirmed which engines will be used. The availability of an EV or hybrid powertrain will likely depend on the company’s product strategy closer to the launch.
The second proposed model addresses a much larger gap. The upcoming Sorento is expected to sit in the Rs 40 lakh to Rs. 45 lakh price bracket, leaving considerable room above the Seltos. Kia are evaluating a D1-segment SUV to occupy this space, potentially giving buyers a less expensive alternative to the Sorento.
The new model is expected to focus on practicality, and could compete with 3-row SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO and the upcoming MG Hector Hawk.
However, unlike the smaller SUV, this model is still under feasibility evaluation. Kia have not taken a final decision on introducing it in India.
Electrification could be an important part of both future products. The current information suggests that Kia are considering electrified powertrains for the 2 SUVs. This would fit with the company’s broader plan to increase the number of electrified models in its Indian portfolio.
Kia already sells the Syros EV, Carens Clavis EV, EV6 and the flagship EV9 electric SUV in India, while the company is also expected to expand its strong hybrid offerings. The exact technology – strong hybrid or pure electric – for these 2 new SUVs has not been confirmed.

Kia’s near-term product plans already include the next-generation Sonet and new Sorento, while the company is expanding its electrified range.
If Kia gives the green light to both new SUVs, the company could have a significantly more comprehensive SUV portfolio by the end of the decade, with fewer price and size gaps between their individual products.
