Hyundai are expected to launch the Bayon-based SUV in India around the last week of October 2026, according to our understanding of the company’s product plans and launch timelines. The upcoming SUV will sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s India lineup, but its positioning appears to have evolved since we first reported on the model.

While the global Bayon is a crossover with a relatively low-slung profile, the India-spec SUV is expected to prioritise a boxier and more upright design. Hyundai are also targeting dimensions that could match or exceed the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, barring its height.
The upcoming Hyundai SUV was recently spotted testing on Indian roads and is expected to offer a more spacious and premium alternative to the Venue while undercutting the Creta.
The Hyundai Bayon-based SUV is expected to launch in India around the last week of October 2026. Hyundai have not announced an official launch date yet, so the timeline remains subject to change.
The upcoming SUV will be an important addition to Hyundai’s portfolio as the company looks to strengthen its presence in the rapidly expanding B2- and C-segment SUV space.
Initially, the India-spec Bayon was expected to compete primarily with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. However, its expected dimensions and positioning suggest that Hyundai could be targeting larger SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris.

Unlike the global Bayon, which has a crossover-like silhouette, Hyundai are expected to give the India-spec model a more upright and boxy body style.
This change is likely to be driven by Indian buyer preferences, with a taller and more conventional SUV profile helping the model deliver greater road presence and a more spacious cabin.
Spy shots indicate that the production SUV will retain some of the design cues seen on the global Bayon, including slim LED lighting elements, chunky body cladding and a distinctive rear lighting signature. However, the overall proportions are expected to be significantly different from the Euro-spec crossover. The boxier design could also help Hyundai maximise cabin space without making the SUV excessively long.
Hyundai are expected to target dimensions that match or exceed the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, except for height. However, the final India-spec dimensions are yet to be confirmed.

The larger dimensions and boxier body are expected to translate into a more spacious cabin than the Venue. Hyundai are likely to focus on rear-seat comfort and practicality, particularly as the upcoming SUV will target buyers upgrading from smaller SUVs and hatchbacks.
The flatter roofline and more upright rear section should provide better headroom and usable cabin space. The SUV is also expected to offer a larger boot than the Venue, although its final capacity is yet to be revealed.

The upcoming Hyundai SUV is expected to share its powertrain lineup with the Creta. This could include a 1.5L normal petrol, 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engine. Hyundai are also expected to offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain with the normal petrol engine.
The CNG version could use an under-floor dual-cylinder tank layout to minimise the impact on boot space. If introduced, the Bayon-based SUV would become Hyundai’s first CNG SUV positioned above the 4-metre mark in India.
There is currently no confirmation of a hybrid powertrain for the India-spec SUV. Hyundai could, however, consider electrified powertrain options at a later stage depending on market demand and regulatory requirements.

Hyundai are expected to equip the upcoming SUV with several premium features borrowed from the Creta and Venue.
Expected features include:

The top-spec variants are likely to get the majority of these features, allowing Hyundai to position the new SUV as a more premium alternative to the Venue.
The India-spec Hyundai Bayon is expected to be priced between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
With its larger dimensions and more upright design, the upcoming SUV is expected to compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and other SUVs in the same price bracket. It will also overlap with the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and other B2-segment SUVs at the lower end of its range.
The upcoming SUV will also sit below the next-generation Creta, which is expected to launch in India in 2027 and could move further upmarket.
