The Kia Sonet B2-segment SUV was launched in India in 2020 and it is due for an update soon. Recently, the global-spec Kia Sonet facelift was spotted, revealing several exterior design changes. Now, the India-spec Kia Sonet was spotted on test, ahead of its possible launch in December 2024.

Kia Sonet Facelift Spotted Again

The latest spy shot shows the Kia Sonet facelift with a black paint finish. The India-spec Kia Sonet facelift is expected to feature the same headlamps as the global-spec model that was spied last month. Up front, the most noticeable changes are the sharper looking headlamps and grille. The global-spec Sonet facelift was spied wearing a sharper iteration of Kia’s Tiger Nose grille while the mesh pattern remains more or less the same.

Other highlights of the India-spec Kia Sonet test mule include a single-pane sunroof, dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails and new connected LED tail lights. The side profile remains largely the same as the current Sonet.

The global-spec Kia Sonet facelift that was spied last month does not feature ADAS sensors at the front or cameras on the windshield like in the Tata Nexon 2023. Hence, we do not expect Kia India to offer ADAS with the Sonet just yet.

Kia Sonet Facelift Interior Changes

While the latest spy shots do not offer a glimpse of the Sonet facelift’s interior, we expect it to feature minor revisions based on previous spy shots. We could expect new elements such as a touch-based HVAC control panel with haptic feedback, a full-digital instrument cluster and new upholstery options as well.

Kia Sonet Engine Options

As far as powertrain options are concerned, we do not expect any changes with the Sonet facelift. Hence, expect Kia to offer it with the same 1.2-litre normal petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines as before. The 1.2-litre normal petrol could continue to come with the 5-speed manual while the turbo petrol and diesel will offer the 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission (ACMT) as before. Higher variants of the Sonet turbo petrol and diesel will also get the option of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) and 6-speed torque converter automatic (TC), respectively.

When launched the Kia Sonet facelift will continue to rival the new Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Nexa Fronx, Maruti Arena Brezza, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, among others. Currently, the Kia Sonet is priced between Rs. 7.80 lakh and Rs. 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
