Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque get Ingenium petrol equipped engine
Jaguar Land Rover India has come up with its latest generation of Ingenium petrol engine in the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque for the Indian market. JLR India first introduced the 2.0 liter Ingenium petrol engine on the sedans Jaguar XE and XF earlier in 2018, following which they have given the same option to Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.
For the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the technologically advanced 2.0 liter Ingenium engine has been presented on SE and HSE trims priced from INR 49.20 lakhs and INR 52.70 lakhs respectively while for Evoque, the new powertrain can be seen powering SE and HSE Dynamic variants with price starting at INR 49.20 and INR 51.06 lakhs respectively.
The technologically advanced powertrain is offered in the SE and HSE trim of the Discovery Sport priced at Rs 49.20 lakh and Rs 52.70 lakh, respectively. For the Range Rover Evoque, the Ingenium petrol is offered in SE and HSE Dynamic trim priced at Rs 51.06 lakh and Rs 60.73 lakh, respectively.
The new all-aluminium 2.0 Ingenium equipped motor is said to utilize 15 percent less fuel in comparison to the already existing 2.0-litre unit, and is being offered in different forms of 200hp (single-scroll turbo), 250hp and 300hp (twin-scroll turbo). The 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol is at hand on these SUVs in the 240PS and 340 Nm torque trim. However, the engine has been mounted transversely in these cars due to which the power and torque figures are marginally lower than its earlier counterparts and the eight-speed ZF automatic has been kept the same.
The new 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder Ingenium petrol engine uses a lightweight aluminum block and has been developed in-house. It has the capability of 247 hp peak power at 5,000-6,000 rpm and peak torque of 365 Nm at 1,500-4,000rpm, which is mated to a 9 speed automatic transmission.
The low friction aluminium-intensive design employed in the engine helps to increase thermal efficiency and reduce weight which eventually improves the fuel efficiency. The twin scroll turbo in these engines further reduces the turbo lag and improves the power output. Jaguar has claimed that these Ingenium engines will be delivering improved efficiency and enhanced performance at a lower running cost.
Apart from the new Ingenium petrol engine, 2018 Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque also get Wi-Fi feature hotspot with 4G access for upto 8 devices along with a host of other new features.
The new Ingenium equipped petrol powertrain made its debut in the Indian market with the Velar in 250hp guise, as the engine has been longitudinal mounted and was introduced later in the Range Rover Evoque convertible, XE and the XF. Developed completely by Jaguar Land Rover in a departure from dependence from Ford engines, the new Integium engines use a wide range of technologies like an electro-hydraulic valve-train, integrated exhaust manifold along with a twin-scroll turbocharger.

The Model Year 2018 Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque are equipped with Wi-Fi Hotspot, with 4G accesses to up to eight devices, along with Pro Services. InControl-Pro Services have key features like the route planner application; the commute mode and sharing the expected time of arrival.
Provided the current uncertainty over the fate of diesel engine powered cars and deregulated fuel prices, buyers are looking for petrol engines in big cars as a viable option again and this development is going to help JLR cater to these buyers.
