Mahindra e-KUV100 Expected To Launch Soon

by Saransh Goyal on Wednesday, Nov 18 2020

Mahindra first showcased the electric KUV100 at the 2018 Auto Expo followed by an appearance at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now, it seems like Mahindra is planning to launch the electric KUV100 in India soon, as the carmaker has registered it with the Delhi RTO.

    Mahindra-e-KUV100

As per a leaked document, the e-KUV100 will be powered by an electric motor producing 54PS of power. It is similar to what Mahindra announced at the Auto Expo. So, the production-spec eKUV100 should be identical to the one showcased at the biennial event. The eKUV100 has a torque output of 120Nm and it draws power from a 15.9 kWh battery pack that supports fast charging and can be charged up to 80 per cent in just one hour. The e-KUV100 has a claimed range of 147km.

On the features front, the e-KUV100 will be equipped with basic safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder and overspeeding alert. Other features will include manual AC, a touchscreen infotainment system, tilt-adjustable steering, power windows and adjustable headrests.

As far as looks are concerned, the electric KUV100 looks largely similar to the conventionally powered model except for some minor changes. It gets an updated front bumper which gets a large plastic panel instead of a large air dam. Other changes on the front include blue coloured inserts on the grille and in the projector headlamps. On the side, the only distinguishing element is the ‘+ME’ badging on the front fender. Around the back, it gets a grey colour applique on the tailgate. The interior, on the other hand, looks identical to that of the standard KUV100NXT.

The registration of  e-KUV100 suggests Mahindra is planning to launch the electric car in the coming few months. It will be offered in three variants: K4+, K8 and K8(O). Prices are expected to range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The e-KUV100 won’t have any direct rivals in the market but it will undercut the Tata Nexon by a substantial margin. The Nexon EV is priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 16.26 lakh (ex-showroom).
