2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift: Top 5 Expected Changes | V3Cars
Mahindra are currently testing the Thar facelift and recent spy shots suggest the lifestyle off-road SUV could receive notable design updates inspired by the Thar Roxx. Although the Thar was updated as recently as October 2025, the new spy shots indicate Mahindra are working on further refining the Thar to keep it fresh and competitive.
In this article, we take a look at the top 5 changes expected on the 2026 Thar facelift.
1. Thar Roxx-Inspired Front Design
One of the biggest highlights of the Thar facelift is expected to be its updated front end styling. Spy shots suggest the Thar could borrow several elements from the Thar Roxx, including circular LED headlamps, C-shaped LED DRLs, revised 6-slat grille design and updated front bumpers. These changes should give the Thar 3-Door a more modern and premium appearance while retaining its rugged identity.
2. Full LED Lighting Setup
The current Thar still uses halogen headlamps. With the facelift, Mahindra are likely to introduce a full LED lighting setup across the higher variants. This could include LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED turn indicators and revised LED tail lamps. This update should improve visibility at night and in rainy conditions. 3. New Alloy Wheels
The side profile of the Thar facelift is expected to remain largely unchanged. However, Mahindra could introduce new alloy wheel designs, tweaked bumpers and updated tail lamp graphics. These subtle updates should help refresh the SUV’s overall look without altering its distinct silhouette.
4. Feature Additions For Better Daily Usability
While the Thar is primarily an off-road vehicle, Mahindra have gradually improved its everyday usability. In the last update, the Thar’s base variant gained features such as a front armrest, rear AC vents, remote fuel filler release, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill start assist, hill descent control and more. With the 2026 facelift, we could expect Mahindra to offer more standard features across variants.
Given the increasing competition, especially more urban-friendly SUVs, and the fact that more Thars stay on the road rather than off it, Mahindra may focus on making it more practical for daily use. At the end of last year, Mahindra started dispatching the Thar RWD with highway terrain tyres (HT) instead of all-terrain (AT) tyres. 5. No Major Changes To Powertrain Options
Mechanically, the Thar facelift is expected to remain unchanged. The current Thar is offered with 3 engine options, including the 1.5L diesel, 2.2L diesel and 2L turbo petrol. The smaller diesel engine is only offered with a 6-speed manual while the 2.2L diesel and 2L turbo petrol also get the option of a 6-speed torque converter (TC) automatic. Hence, buyers can expect the same performance and off-road capability with the 2026 Thar facelift.
