Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), have released their EV roadmap for the global market and the Indian market figures heavily in it. Suzuki plan to launch 6 battery electric vehicles (BEV) in India by FY2030. The teaser image of the 6  upcoming Maruti electric vehicles for India suggest one of the models will be the Fronx EV. The Fronx was unveiled at the recently concluded 2023 Auto Expo. Currently, it is offered with 2 petrol engines – a 1.0L turbo petrol an a 1.2L normal petrol.

Maruti Fronx EV — Expected Details

Maruti Suzuki haven’t revealed any specifications of the upcoming Fronx EV. However, the Fronx EV is likely to sit below the eVX, which was unveiled as a concept SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo. The eVX will go into production in FY2024 and become the first all-electric Suzuki offering in India. As stated by Maruti Suzuki officials at the Auto Expo 2023, the production-spec eVX will get a 60kWh battery, dual electric motors and offer a range of up to 550km.

The eVX will rival C-segment SUVs such as the MG ZS EV in terms of specifications and ICE-powered cars like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in terms of size. The Fronx EV will sit below the eVX and go up against other B2-segment electric SUVs such as the Nexon EV Prime and Max. Tata’s Nexon EV comes with 2 battery pack options - 30.2kWh and 40.5kWh. We expect Maruti Suzuki to equip the Fronx EV with a smaller battery pack than the eVX but one that’s comparable in capacity to the Nexon EV Prime and Max. Hence, Fronx EV buyers can expect a range of 400km to 450km with a single charge. Like Tata’s EVs, the Fronx EV will likely get a single motor option only.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV — Rivals

Like its ICE counterpart, the Fronx EV will go up against the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400. The Tata Nexon  EV Prime is offered with a 30.2 kWh battery and offers a range of 312km per charge. It is priced between Rs. 14.49 lakh and Rs. 17.19 lakh. The Nexon EV Max, on the other hand, costs between Rs. 16.49 lakh and Rs. 18.99 lakh and offers a range of 453km. The recently launched Mahindra XUV400 is priced between Rs. 15.99 lakh and Rs. 18.99 lakh and offers a range of 375km when equipped with the 34.5kWh battery pack and 456km with the 39.5kWh battery pack.
