Fronx To Get 1.5L Petrol Engine Of Brezza | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a Baleno-based sub-4m car in India in the Fronx. The bookings for the Fronx are open now, and it was showcased for the first time in India at the 2023 Auto Expo.

While commencing the bookings for the new car, Maruti Suzuki also revealed its variant-wise features and technical specifications. The carmaker announced that the Fronx will come with a 1.2L petrol engine and a 1.0L turbo-petrol engine. Buyers can choose between a manual and an automatic transmission with both the engines in India.

We now learn from Maruti Suzuki’s Chief Technical Officer, CV Raman, that the Fronx will also get Brezza’s 1.5L petrol engine. This engine gets either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission in India. Raman did not confirm the transmission options for the Fronx 1.5L petrol, but we’re expecting to see both transmission options with this engine.

The power output of this 1.5L petrol engine is more than that of the 1.2L and the 1.0L engine that’s on offer on the Fronx but the torque output of the 1.0L turbo petrol engine is the best among all petrol engines in Maruti Suzuki’s current portfolio. The 1.5L petrol engine makes 103PS of maximum power and 137Nm of peak torque under the Brezza, whereas the Fronx 1.0L turbo petrol produces a maximum power of 100PS and peak torque of 148Nm in comparison.

Maruti Suzuki will make the Fronx 1.5L in India and export it overseas. They denied the possibility of this engine making its way under the India-spec Fronx in future. The Fronx will serve as a replacement for the Baleno hatchback in Australia, and we expect Suzuki to push this car in other significant markets for the brand.
