2018 Auto Expo is all set to commence from 9th February 2018 and ahead of its reveal at the event, Maruti Suzuki has teased an all new compact car design language in the form of the Concept Future S. According to the automaker, 'the Concept Future S breaks away from the conventional proportions of a compact car.' Looking at the teaser, the concept Future S is an SUV after the Brezza that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo by Maruti Suzuki.

Speaking about the Concept Future S Mr.CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The increasing preference for UVs and their bold architecture inspired our design team to study a new character for compact cars. Concept Future S could mark a distinctive shift in how compact cars are shaped and designed in India in the future.”

According to the sketch, the concept sports a steeply raked front windscreen, flat bonnet and chunky shoulders giving it the SUV stance and Maruti Suzuki says that it will have a high seating position and ground clearance as well. The urban SUV image is put together by the bold and upright front, with a unique A-pillar treatment and will be positioned below the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It also means that it will be another subcompact SUV from the Maruti Suzuki and will be shorter than the Brezza. However, as the automaker claims good legroom as well as boot space, it would really have been difficult for the engineers at Maruti Suzuki.

Also, Maruti Suzuki design team claims that the Concept Future S epitomizes the next level of design evolution in terms of design proportions, body sculpting and stimulating fusion of bold patterns and superior accent colors. Besides, the concept could also come with day time running lights, with segregate housings for low-beam and high-beam lamps. The Suzuki logo can be seen right in the centre. According to the little information known about the Concept, the production version of the Future S is likely to land into the space currently occupied by the Mahindra KUV100, and Maruti's own Ignis. Although, both these compact SUV’s have not succeed to impress the customers as expected, due to their rather quirky styling, hence, Maruti Suzuki is preparing to cater to this issue with this new Future S concept SUV. Also, Maruti Suzuki is working in terms of making it lightweight too because it will be based on the versatile Heartect platform and is expected to be launched somewhere around 2019.

In terms of powertrain, although it will be too early to say anything about the engine of the concept but we can expect it to get the 1.2-litre K Series petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel. However, the automaker might also introduce their upcoming 1.5-litre diesel motor with this compact SUV. Let’s wait for the official details about this Concept Future S when Maruti Suzuki will unveil it at the upcoming Auto Expo.
