The new upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact SUV is one of the most highly awaited new car launches in India. The Ignis was first displayed in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, and was scheduled to launch by this year’s festive season. However, due to the skyrocketing demands for the Vitara Brezza and Baleno models, Maruti Suzuki was reportedly forced to delay the launch of the Ignis to next year. Now, as per the latest reports, India’s top selling car maker might be launching its new Ignis in this country empowered with the mild-hybrid technology.

Maruti Suzuki has already revealed that it will expand its SHVS lineup in the future without going into more details. If the Indo-Japanese car major really decides to launch the Ignis with its mild hybrid technology, the car can avail subsidy under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of hybrid and Electric vehicles) policy by the government of India. Although it would mean only a slight reduction in its original price tag, as the scheme offers incentives only up to Rs. 29,000 to the green cars.

Maruti Suzuki has not yet revealed any details regarding the possibility of offering the Ignis along with its mild-hybrid counterpart. Nevertheless, there has been many reports saying that the company is working on the low-cost hybrid technology to be offered in more of its future car models. The upcoming Ignis is also speculated to be coming with the option of the more powerful new 1.0 BoosterJet turbocharged petrol motor under its hood, while the choice of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox is also supposed to be on the cards.

The upcoming new Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact crossover is now thought to be fully ready to hit the car market of India, as owing to its scheduled festive season launch, the car has been subjected to rigorous road tests for quite some time in India. It has been known so far that the Ignis will be offered in both petrol and diesel versions, equipped with the familiar 1.2 liter VTVT petrol mill and the acclaimed 1.3 liter MultiJet diesel motor, respectively. However, as per the latest reports, the mini SUV might also come equipped with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) system in the domestic car market of India.

It has been reported several times that the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be a premium model that it be offered for sale through the company’s premium Nexa showrooms. The Ignis being a premium model is likely to offer a host of premium features including an advanced Harman Kardon music system and safety equipments like airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, etc.

Post its Indian launch the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be rivaling against the likes of the Mahindra KUV100. Although premium in status, the Ignis is expected to come with an aggressive price range starting at around Rs. 5.5 lakhs. The model is most likely to hit the car market of India in early 2017.
