According to our sources, the production of Maruti Suzuki Jimny will commence next year - in 2021. As soon as the SUV starts rolling off the line, Maruti Suzuki will begin loading it on ships for export to foreign markets. The India launch will happen a few months after the exports commence.
Maruti Suzuki recently showcased the Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020 to gauge public interest. All signs point to the car heading towards the production line. Chances are that the 3-door version of this mini-off-roader won’t be the one you might see on the Nexa showroom floor. The 5-door Jimny is a more likely candidate for our market where 3-door cars haven’t done well on the sales charts.
In Japan, it’s available with a 658cc turbocharged petrol engine, which makes 64PS of power and 96Nm of torque. It comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It delivers a combined fuel efficiency of 16.2kmpl with the manual transmission and 13.5kmpl with the automatic. It’s also available with a 1.5-litre with 102PS and 130Nm of power and torque figures, respectively. This engine is also available with either a 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic.
