Maruti Suzuki's upcoming compact SUV, Fronx, is the next in line for launch. As we wait to get impressions from the media drive event of the Nexa Fronx, Maruti Suzuki threw a nice piece of information our way to help with our excitement. They revealed the mileage figures of each of the 4 powertrains of the Fronx.

The Fronx 1.2L normal petrol engine delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 21.79kmpl with the manual variants and 22.89kmpl with the automatic variant. Compared to its rivals, the Fronx handily beats its competitors. Only the Punch comes close to challenging the Fronx with an updated mileage figure of 20.09kmpl after it received the BS6 Phase-2 update. With the petrol-automatic powertrain, the Fronx has no serious competition, whatsoever.

The Fronx turbo petrol engine also delivers a good 21.50kmpl fuel efficiency, which is better than the Magnite turbo and Kiger turbo’s 20.0kmpl. With the automatic transmission, here too, the Fronx easily comes out on top once again as the Magnite turbo and Kiger turbo promise a mileage of 17.7kmpl while the Fronx has an ARAI figure of 20.01kmpl.

It’s commendable, considering that the Fronx turbo petrol uses the old-school torque converter automatic transmission. These use a hydraulic coupling, which saps fuel efficiency especially if you drive extensively in stop-and-go traffic situations. On the bright side, these automatics use decades old technology and offer a good driving experience with much better long-term reliability than newer automatics like the AMT, CVT and DCT.
