May 2023 Cars Sales Analysis - D-Segment Cars YoY, MoM Change, 6-Month Trend | V3Cars

In this May 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all D-segment cars in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all D-segment cars for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend.

D-Segment Cars

D-Segment Cars May 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change

  • SUVs and MPVs continue to rule the D-segment. There are only 3 sedans and only 1 pick-up in the D-segment.
  • With the exception of the Toyota Hilux pick-up, the top 10 best-selling D-segment cars in the month of May 2023 were all SUVs or MPVs.
  • The Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic), Toyota Innova (Crysta + Hycross), Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Fortuner and Hector/Hector Plus took the top 5 spots in the sales ranking for the month of May.
  • The top gainer in the mass-market offerings in the D-segment from various manufacturers in May were the Innova sisters, with over 184% growth in the YoY comparison analysis.
  • The Innova Crysta/Hycross were followed by the Fortuner, with a 144% YoY growth.
  • MG Gloster dispatches also rose by 4 times in May of 2023 compared to May 2022.
  • The only losers in the YoY comparison were:
    • Superb with a 93% drop in dispatches.
    • Vellfire with an 89% drop in dispatches.
    • Tata Safari with a 21% drop in sales.
  • The Kia Carnival reported zero sales in the month of May of 2023. In May 2022, 239 units of the Carnival luxury MPV were dispatched by Kia.
  • The Alturas G4 and Skoda Octavia are no longer on sale.

D-Segment Cars May 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change

  • Abou half the cars in the list saw a drop in May MoM comparison for the D-segment cars
  • In terms of MoM performance, the Scorpio sisters were the best-selling cars in the D-segment but  saw a decline of 3% in May over April.
  • The Toyota Camry was the top gainer in terms of MoM sales comparison, with a nearly 125% increase in dispatches compared to April.
  • Vellfire and Superb saw over 90% decline in dispatches in May compared to April.
