MG Motor plans to expand this reach to a total of 250 centers by September this year.

MG Hector Booking Start from June 2019

The production of the Hector SUV is currently underway at the company's Halol plant in Gujarat. The manufacturer has installed an all- new assembly line, a press shop, a body shop, a parts distribution center, a testing track and a new state-of-the-art training facility in the plant - all within a span of 18 months by making an investment of Rs 2,200 crore to refurbish the Halol manufacturing facility and roll out its first product, the Hector, from the same production facility.

Speaking on the development, Rajeev Chaba, President, and Managing Director, MG Motor India, said, “MG Hector has been developed with a high degree of localized content to cater to the specific needs of new-age Indian consumers. As India’s first internet car with 50+ connected features, the Hector will come with 19 exclusive product features, making it the new benchmark in its segment. Customers will be able to experience the Hector first- hand very soon and we are ready to welcome new customers into the world of MG.”

The engine specifications for the 2019 MG Hector include a 2.0-liter engine which is the Fiat sourced Multijet unit which also powers other models in the segment like the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass churning out 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The 1.5- liter, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine is also mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and develops 141 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. However, the SUV lacks an automatic transmission in the diesel variant. Other than these, MG is also offering the Hector with a hybrid variant which uses a 48 Volt mild hybrid system with a 48- volt lithium- ion battery that helps store energy and provides extra torque assistance of up to 20 Nm when required. The hybrid system also helps in reducing emissions by up to 12 percent using Engine Auto Start-Stop, Regenerative Braking and E-Boost.

In terms of features, the new Hector SUV has been claimed to be India's first internet car built with a high level of localization and comes power-packed with features, inside-out. Developed in collaboration with several tech companies, the SUV gets over 100 connected car features in the segment. A vertically-mounted 10.4- inch ultra large Full-HD infotainment screen that comes with pre-loaded entertainment content, Real-Time Navigation, Remote Location, Geo-Fencing and Emergency Response among others are the major highlights of the SUV. The software will be updated via over-the-air (OTA) downloads like firmware and feature updates. The SUV will come with pre-loaded apps like - TomTom IQ Maps, Gaana Premium, and AccuWeather app among others and MG will give free data service for the first five years as well.

Also, in order to withstand extreme road conditions, the Hector has been tested for over one million kilometers in India before entering production. The company has already confirmed that it will launch the 7-seater version of the Hector sometime next year.  The MG eZS electric SUV will be the second product from the British carmaker in the country. Expected to be priced from Rs 12 lakh ex-showroom, the upcoming MG Hector will take against the likes of the entire premium SUVs in the segment including Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Creta and For Endeavour.  Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the 2019 MG Hector in India.
