New Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Launched At INR 7.44 Lakh
The much awaited 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been launched in the Indian market. The MPV comes priced at Rs 7.44 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi). The automaker has launched the Ertiga petrol variants, including two automatic trims priced between Rs 7.44 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh, while the diesel variants cost between Rs 8.84 lakh and Rs 10.9 lakh. Ertiga was first launched in India in April 2012 designed especially for Indian market and the company has sold over 4.2 lakh units so far. Also, Maruti Suzuki India has invested over Rs 900 crore in the development of the new Ertiga.
Commenting on the launch, Kenichi Ayukawa, Maruti Suzuki CEO said, “The next-gen Ertiga has been designed with thoughtful features and great attention to detail, keeping in mind the requirements of our ever evolving customers. I’m confident that our customers will appreciate best- in- class fuel efficiency, which has increased by nearly 10 per cent for the petrol variant.”
Based on the Maruti Suzuki’s 5th generation HEARTECT platform, the 2018 Ertiga is bigger than the previous version. The MPV is now longer by 99 mm, wider by 40 mm and taller by 5 mm though sits on the same wheelbase at 2,740 mm. however, the boot space of the 2018 Ertiga has shrunk down to 32 litres now. The automaker has offered the vehicle in five exterior color options- Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Metallic Magma Grey, Real Metallic Oxford Blue, Pearl Arctic White and Metallic Silky Silver.
In terms of looks, the newly launched Ertiga gets a new front grille, upgraded headlamp cluster with DRLs and projector headlamps, new front and rear bumpers. The HEARTECT platform has helped the MPV shed some weight as well as has enhanced safety on this new generation model. The fog lamp cluster with a new housing is another highlight at the exterior of the 2018 Ertiga.
At the inside, the updated Ertiga looks more premium than the predecessor. The features include wood inserts and high- quality plastic finished in black and beige, while the dashboard also gets Maruti Suzuki's smartplay infotainment system that supports in- built navigation with smartphone connectivity options including Apple Car Play and Android Auto in the top variants. The new Ertiga also offers second- row seats with rear A/C vents as earlier.
Under the hood, the all- new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga comes powered by the new 1.5L inline- four K15B petrol engine producing 103 bhp of power and 138 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated with either five- speed manual or four- speed automatic transmissions. However, the diesel engine remains the same with the 1.3- litre DDiS which produces 90 bhp of power and 200 Nm of peak torque mated to a five- speed manual transmission. The automaker doesn’t offer automatic gearbox option with the diesel engine. The claimed fuel efficiency by Maruti Suzuki on the 2018 Ertiga is 19.34 kmpl for the manual while the automatic makes 18.69 kmpl. The diesel Ertiga has a fuel efficiency of 25.47 kmpl. This is 10 per cent higher compared to the outgoing model.
Maruti Suzuki has already commenced the bookings for the new Ertiga with deliveries due to start by the end of the month. Maruti’s Arena dealerships will be responsible for the sales of the MPV and will take on Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy in the Indian market.
