Kia Sorento Hybrid Spied In India Ahead Of Launch – Details

Upcoming Kia Sorento: What To Expect?

The latest spy shots suggest the India-bound Sorento will stay largely true to its international design. Despite the camouflage, a few key styling elements are evident. Up front, the SUV features Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille with a more squared-off stance, flanked by vertically stacked LED headlamps. The silhouette reveals a long roofline and generous glass area, while the rear appears to get upright proportions with vertically oriented tail lamps.

Globally, the Sorento measures over 4,800mm in length and offers a wheelbase of around 2,800mm, placing it firmly in the 3-row C-segment SUV space. In India, it will sit above the Kia Seltos in Kia’s lineup and is expected to serve as a more premium offering.

Inside, although the test mule doesn’t reveal much, the global-spec Sorento comes loaded with features. These include dual 12.3-inch displays, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Kia are likely to carry forward most of these features to maintain a premium positioning.

Powertrain Options

Under the bonnet, Kia are likely to introduce the Sorento with a strong hybrid powertrain. Internationally, the SUV is offered with a 1.6L turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined output of around 224PS. This setup is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel drive (AWD) available in select markets. Whether Kia will offer AWD in India remains to be seen.

Kia Sorento Potential Rivals And Launch Timeline

In terms of market positioning, the Sorento will not directly rival mainstream 3-row SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. Instead, it is expected to compete with more premium offerings such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and the Volkswagen Tayron.

Kia have confirmed that the Sorento will be part of their plan to expand to a 10-model lineup in India by 2030, with a strong focus on electrified powertrains. Alongside the Sorento, Kia are also working on hybrid versions of the Kia Carnival and new electric vehicles, including the upcoming Syros EV, for the Indian market.

The Sorento’s launch timeline is yet to be officially revealed, but based on current developments, it is expected to arrive in the next couple of years. When launched, it will strengthen Kia’s presence in the premium SUV space in India.
