New Renault Kwid EV Spotted Testing In India – What To Expect | V3Cars

The new-generation Renault Kwid EV was spotted undergoing road tests once again in the country. These sightings signal Renault’s strong intentions to introduce their electric vehicle lineup to the Indian market.

New Renault Kwid EV Spied Yet Again – Launch Soon?

Renault Kwid EV Design – A Clearer Look At The Electric Hatchback

The latest test mule, seen near Chennai, offers a clearer glimpse of the upcoming electric hatchback. With reduced camouflage compared to earlier sightings in August last year, key design elements are now visible. The vehicle features modern Y-shaped LED taillights, a rear wiper, and steel wheels. These design cues are consistent with the Dacia Spring EV, which is the global version of this upcoming model. This suggests that the India-bound Kwid EV will largely mirror its international counterpart in terms of styling.

Renault Kwid EV – Powertrain And Range Expectations

While specific technical details for the India-bound model are yet to be officially confirmed, the Renault Kwid EV is expected to retain the Dacia Spring EV’s international specifications. This means it is likely to come with:

  • Battery: A 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
  • Motor Options: 2 electric motor choices: a 45PS unit for the standard variant and a more powerful 65PS unit for higher variants.
  • Claimed Range: An estimated range of up to 220km on a single charge, which may vary depending on driving conditions and the chosen variant.

Renault Kwid EV – Charging Capabilities

The new Kwid EV is expected to support both standard AC and faster DC charging options:

  • AC Charging: It will likely support 7kW AC charging, which could fully charge the battery from 20% to 100% in approximately 4 hours using a wall box charger.
  • DC Fast Charging: For quicker top-ups, the EV is expected to support 30kW DC fast charging, allowing a charge from 20% to 80% in just about 45 minutes.

Renault Kwid EV – Interior And Features

The cabin of the upcoming Kwid EV is expected to offer a modern and upmarket feel, similar to the Dacia Spring EV. Expected features include:

  • A 7-inch digital instrument cluster
  • A 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity
  • A media control system with a USB port
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Cruise control and speed limiter
  • Dual airbags
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Rear parking sensors

It remains to be seen if Renault India equip the India-spec Kwid EV with ADAS.

Kwid EV Market Positioning And Rivals

Renault have confirmed plans for an A-segment EV in India, and the Kwid EV is widely expected to be this model, though an official name confirmation is still pending. Given its compact dimensions and urban-focused range, the Kwid EV will likely be positioned as an accessible city commuter, targeting first-time EV buyers. It is expected to compete with existing entry-level electric models such as the MG Comet EV and the Tata Tiago EV.

Renault Kwid EV Expected Launch Timeline

While Renault India have not officially announced a launch timeline, the repeated road tests suggest that the vehicle is in an advanced stage of development. More details are likely to emerge in the coming months, with a potential official unveiling by late 2025.
