French car Renault has unveiled its brand new Arkana SUV at the ongoing 2018 Mosco International Auto Show in Russia. The new Renault Arkana is a coupe-styled SUV which will be the company’s flagship model upon its official market launch.
The premium 5-seater Renault Arkana crossover shares a lot if design cues with the global Renault Captur crossover, but comes with even more premium visual appeal and bolder styling elements, which includes stylized LED headlights straight from the new Renault Megane.
The Arkana’s side profile’s highlight is its coupe-like sloping roofline adds to its stylish appeal and gets well integrated with the vehicle’s rear design. The high-riding crossover looks gets even more enhanced by its high ground clearance and also the large 19 inch boldly styled alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV flaunts a stretched LED tail light strip covering the width and two exhaust tail tips to add to the sporty look.
The Renault Arkana is a based on the modified version of the same platform that underpins the Russia-spec Duster and Kaptur (known as Captur in other markets). As both the Duster and the Kaptur are highly successful models in Russia, Renault expects to repeat same sort of success with the more premium Arkana. Renault has not revealed the engine specs of the Arkana SUV yet, but it could share the same engine options with the Russia-spec Kaptur. The all-wheel drive system is all that has been confirmed till now by Renault for the new flagship SUV model.
The all-new Renault Arkana crossover will be first hitting the car market of Russia by early 2019, and Renault has confirmed that the SUV will be introduced in the Asian markets as well. When the car market of India is concerned, considering that the Arkana shares its platform with the Duster and Captur, it could very well be launched here.
The Indian car market gets the Duster and the Captur based on a different platform, but then the Arkana could also be brought here based on the same B0 platform. However, while the more conventional looking Duster has been a great success in the Indian market, the more contemporary looking and premium Captur has not been able to meet the company’s sales expectations yet in India. Moreover, while the coupe-styled SUVs are finding preference in the higher luxury segments in India, in the Captur’s class the coupe-styled SUVs are yet not popular here. Thus, the Renault Arkana’s arrival in India does not seem to be happening to soon.
Moreover, coupe-styled SUVs do have a compromised head space at the rear owing to the stylish sloping roofline, and the Indian SUV buyers still prefer upright and high stance on the more conventionally styled SUVs especially when the headspace is concerned. So, we really don’t think Renault has any plans to introduce the Arkana to India, although it is Asia-bound.
Nevertheless, the Indian auto market is constantly changing and maturing, thus, around 2020 the coupe-styled SUVs might pick up popularity here. Thus, we are not really dismissing the hope of getting the new stylish Renault Arkana flagship SUV in our market.
