MG Gloster Discontinued; To Be Replaced By Majestor | V3Cars

So Majestor can be considered a facelift of the Gloster. But MG Motor are claiming that both the cars will be on sale together as different products. Certain carmakers have, in the past, used similar strategies to either clear stock of the outgoing model or position the new product above the other without losing out on buyers at a lower price point.

Sales data from Autopunditz.com also confirms that the Gloster’s dispatches from the factory have remained zero for the last 3 consecutive months. It is, therefore, safe to assume that  Gloster will not continue to exist. We can’t recall the last time a car had zero dispatches for 3 consecutive months and then resurrected. 3 consecutive months of zero wholesale figures pretty much confirms that the Gloster is no longer in production.

It’s possible that some examples of the Gloster may be lying around in MG’s plant, and moving those out of the plant may result in boosting the Gloster’s wholesale numbers to single digits at best. But, we believe that will happen for only for a month or two. Doing so will also help the carmaker claim that the FAQ information about the Gloster remaining on sale alongside the Majestor is not misleading even if it holds true only for a couple of months.

Then, why are MG saying that the Gloster will remain on sale even after the Majestor joins the portfolio? Probably because they have some Gloster stock lying around at dealerships and they don’t want to spook buyers who may drop the plans to buy a Gloster if they learn that it’s soon going to be discontinued.

From a buyer perspective, if you’re interested in buying the Gloster, we’d suggest you negotiate aggressively with the dealer and save as much as possible on your new car. Given that Gloster was never a high-volume product, the dealer would be willing to clear their inventory even if it means taking a small hit on profits.
