Skoda India has launched the Rapid Edition X in the car market of the country. The Skoda India Rapid Edition X is essentially the Rapid Monte Carlo, which had to rebaged by the Czech car maker due to a trademark dispute. Skoda India launched the range topping Rapid Monte Carlo edition in August this year. The Monte Carlo edition came with a starting price range of Rs. 10.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Earlier it was reported that Skoda has got into a trademark dispute after launching the Rapid Monte Carlo Edition in the month of October. Indian clothing brand Monte Carlo sued Skoda for using the same name for the car. Now, Skoda uses the Monte Carlo name internationally for a range of its race inspired special edition car models, which are on sale in global car markets. Moreover, the Czech car maker also pays a hefty royalty to the geographical location of Monte Carlo for using the name. Nevertheless, the Indian court ordered Skoda Auto India to refrain from using the Monte Carlo moniker owing to copyright breach.

It is expected that the Skoda Rapid Edition X is going to remain exactly the same as that of the Monte Carlo edition, excepting the name. The Rapid Monte Carlo Edition came with a racy exterior paint schemes and other sporty features. It flaunted a black finished front radiator grille, 16 inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a tailgate spoiler and a faux diffuser all finished in black. The special edition model launched with two exterior paint schemes, namely red and white, both of which came with a contrasting black painted roof.

On the inside as well, the Rapid Edition X is expected to offer the same features that the Monte Carlo launched with. Special features include sporty and premium all-black interiors, sporty red and black leatherette upholstery for the seats, new flat bottomed steering wheel wrapped in black leather with contrasting red stitching, stainless-steel foot pedals, a 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink and MirrorLink along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and exclusive door sills and floor mats.

Skoda is also expected offer all the other features in the Rapid Edition X such as LED Daytime Running Lights, cruise control, dual rear AC vents, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, cooled glove box and many more. Safety features are expected to include dual front airbags, ABS, ESC and hill-hold control as standard.

The sedan trim gets powered by a 1.6L petrol engine that generates 105hp and is paired to a 5 speed manual and a 6 speed automatic transmission; and a 1.5L diesel motor option delivering 110hp coupled with a 5 speed manual and 7 speed DSG transmission.

The Skoda Rapid Edition X is expected to be priced just like the Monte Carlo Edition that is from Rs. 10.75 lakhs to Rs. 13.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). In India, the Skoda Rapid fights rivals the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento.
