Czech car maker Skoda is on a roll when it comes to introducing new car models. The Volkswagen Group owned Czech auto brand is known to be working on a slew of new models, while being busy preparing to introduce a number of new models and concepts. Skoda has now offered a preview of a new upcoming vehicle that is going to be named as the Kamiq. Skoda has the aim to double its sales in the world’s largest car market China, by the year 2020, and the brand new Skoda Kamiq is part of the company’s growth strategy. The all-new Kamiq will be a new member of Skoda’s growing SUV family. The Kamiq will be an important part of Skoda’s new SUV line-up which will consist of 4 models. Currently Skoda offers the Kodiaq 7-seater and Karoq 5-seater SUV models, while the Kodiaq GT coupe is expected to get introduced soon.
The brand new Skoda Kamiq is a small SUV that is slated to be officially unveiled before the upcoming Kodiaq GT coupé and it will debut at the upcoming 2018 Beijing Motor Show. Like the Kodiaq GT, the Kamiq compact SUV is also expected to be launched in the car market of China first, although none of these SUV models are expected to be China-specific models and will be launched in the other global car markets as well in due course of time.
The Kamiq is a very important model for the Czech car maker, as it is a small SUV and small SUVs are experiencing increasing demands across the world. The Kamiq is also going to add the right variety to Skoda’s current SUV line-up, as the Kodiaq is a premium full-sized SUV and the Karoq is a compact SUV. So, the upcoming Kamiq small SUV will actually complete Skoda’s SUV family.
As for the Skoda Kodiaq GT SUV, the company boss Bernhard Maier has said that he really wants to introduce the Kodiaq GT to the car market of Europe in the future, but the current production capacity constraints will not make it possible very soon. The Kodiaq GT was earlier spied in China and was thought to be a China specific model, but now we know that it is a global model. He also confirmed that the Kamiq will not be coming in an electrified avatar.
As it has already been reported, the new upcoming small SUV from the house of Skoda is codenamed as Model Q, but is speculated to be officially named as the Kamiq, which keeps to Skoda’s new naming nomenclature for its SUV’s which starts with ‘K’ and ends with ‘Q’. The Kamiq will be placed below the Karoq and was first reported to be a crossover model.
The Skoda Kamiq will be based on the PQ platform that is shared with the China-spec Rapid sedan. Skoda’s sales and marketing head, Alain Favey said that the model will be priced below the Karoq making it a highly competitively priced model to fight it out with many SUVs in China.
