Under the hood, the 2019 Tata Altroz is likely to come powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine that will be offered in two states of tune having power outputs of 85 bhp and 102 bhp. Additionally, the manufacturer is also expected to offer the 1.5-liter diesel engine from the Nexon. However, it is not confirmed yet by Tata. The transmission options will include a five-speed manual for the petrol and a six-speed manual for the diesel. However, an AMT version is also expected at a later stage.
The hatchback has already been spied a number of times testing in the country. The test mules have revealed almost all the exterior features to be offered on the hatchback. The test mule revealed a rear end and a side profile with the blacked-out elements and tail lamps with alloy wheels. At the exterior, the upcoming Tata Altroz gets the upswept headlamps, large wheel arches, kinked window line and blacked-out boot lid, while the interior will offer features such as an all-black dashboard with a layered design, a 7.0-inch touch screen with segment-first digital instrument cluster, cruise control and auto climate control with rear AC vents too. The hatchback will offer a boot- space of 341 liters.
The Tata Altroz is the second model based on the IMPACT 2.0 design first seen on the Harrier SUV. However, it is the first production model Tata based on the brand’s new ALFA arc platform showcased on the 45X concept. In terms of pricing, the 2019 Tata Altroz is expected to be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the Altroz hatchback will take against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz in the segment.
