Currently, no B2-segment SUV in the country offers a factory-fitted CNG option. However, Maruti Suzuki are likely to launch the Brezza CNG soon with a 1.5L normal petrol-CNG option. To compete with that, Tata Motors could launch the Nexon CNG with a 1.2L turbocharged petrol-CNG engine. In this article, we share the expected power and torque figures of the upcoming Nexon CNG.

To calculate the expected power and torque figures of the Nexon CNG, let us take a look at the difference between the power and torque output of the Tiago CNG and Altroz CNG with their petrol counterparts.

In the case of the Tiago CNG, its power and torque outputs are 15% lower than its petrol counterpart. The Tiago CNG offers 73PS of power and 95Nm of torque and it comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Altroz CNG, despite using the same engine, offers 75PS of power and 97Nm of torque, which is 2PS and 2Nm more than the Tiago CNG. The only change between the Tiago CNG and Altroz CNG is the latter’s twin CNG cylinder technology, which made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023.

Based on the percentage difference between Tata’s petrol and CNG models, we expect the Nexon CNG’s power output to be anywhere between 102PS and 106PS. As for peak torque, the Nexon CNG, with its turbo petrol engine, is likely to produce between 145Nm and 146Nm. We are yet to learn whether the Nexon CNG will pack a conventional CNG cylinder or feature Tata’s twin CNG cylinder technology.
