Tata Nexon has been making news for all the good reasons for quite some time. Yet again, the subcompact SUV is in news for offering Apple CarPlay functionality to the infotainment system. Till now, the 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the higher variants of the Nexon (XZ and XZ+) was only available with Android Auto connectivity since Tata launched Nexon in September last year.
However, while new models will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, older models can get the software update R12.50 (up from R11.31) at authorized Tata dealerships. It is supposed to take only 30 min for the update to install.
Under the hood, the Tata Nexon comes powered by 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron turbo-petrol engine making 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque, and the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder Revotorq turbo-diesel motor that produces 110 hp of maximum power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to a six-speed manual and a six-speed AMT.
The Nexon subcompact SUV not only helped the company to post a 14 percent growth in domestic sales in July 2018 but after the brand brought out the AMT-equipped model earlier this year in the top-spec XZA+ trim, it has significantly added to Tata’s Nexon sales figures. Also, the Tata Nexon became the fourth made-in-India car to get a 4-star rating from Global NCAP after the Tata Zest, Toyota Etios and the Volkswagen Polo. The safety feature list includes dual front airbags, ABS brakes and ISOFIX anchorages as standard.
Apple CarPlay allows hasslefree integration of one’s Apple iPhone to the car’s infotainment system to provide various functions, including calls, music playback and voice commands. The new buyers of the Nexon will get Apple CarPlay functionality pre-installed in their vehicles, while the existing owners won’t get this for now. With this update, the Tata Nexon exceeds with its rivals in the market such as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.
