Tata Motors has added a new XZ trim to the Nexon subcompact SUV. The newly launched trim is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol and Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the diesel trim, and is positioned below the range-topping XZ+ variant. However, the brochure of the car had already got leaked on the internet ahead of the launch. Other than the newly launched XZ trim, the compact SUV is currently offered in 4 trim levels - XE, XM, XT and XZ+.
Speaking at the launch, Vivek Srivatsa- Tata Motors, Head - Marketing, PVBU said, "With a continuous focus to introduce products that not only enhance the brand, but simultaneously align well with the rising aspirations of customer segments, we are happy to introduce wider choice to NEXON customers in the form of a new variant - XZ. The NEXON XZ will be positioned very attractively to provide premium features to our customers. With fourteen exciting features, the NEXON XZ is yet another step towards making the brand more aspirational."
Under the hood, the newly added Nexon XZ gets the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that empowers the other variants of the car. While the petrol motor is capable for 108 bhp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque, the diesel version churns out 108 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both engines come paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and come with selectable driving modes - Eco, City and Sport.
In terms of features, the 2018 Tata Nexon XZ offers the floating touchscreen infotainment system that supports voice command, reverse camera, Android Auto, projector headlamps, height adjustable driver's seat and height adjustable seatbelts as well as voice alerts for seatbelt, hand brake release, door open, low fuel and service reminder along with four tweeters, text and Whatsapp readouts, fabric upholstered seats and more among others. However, the trim misses out on some features as well. The list includes LED daytime running lights, front and rear fog lamps, and rear defogger. Also, instead of the machine-cut alloy wheels, the XZ trim rides on the same 16-inch tyres with dual-tone wheel covers.
Tata Motors had launched the Nexon subcompact SUV last year in September and it has proved to be one of the most loved cars by the automaker in the country. The Nexon range starts at Rs 6.63 lakh for the base petrol variant going up to Rs 10.99 lakh for the top-spec diesel and competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport in the segment. In order to make it more promising in the market, Tata Motors is also planning to launch the Nexon AMT in the country soon. The AMT version of the car had been showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 last month and is likely to go on sale in May this year.
