German luxury automaker BMW has teased the iNEXT, the brand’s upcoming all-electric highly autonomous concept car ahead of its official debut in 2021. The automaker is currently working on the launch of the new BMW M5, upcoming BMW 8 Series and soon-to-be revealed BMW Z4 and with this new teaser, the Bavarian automaker has given all the auto enthusiasts a sneak peak of their future plans.
Speaking about the concept car, Harald Krüger – CEO, BMW said, “The iNEXT project is our building kit for the future. It will benefit the entire company and all our brands. For the first time, we are combining all key technologies for future mobility in one vehicle. The iNEXT is fully electric, fully connected and also offers highly automated driving. Today, we gave our shareholders a very first glimpse of the design of the BMW iNEXT. Later this year, we will be presenting the BMW iNEXT as a Vision Vehicle.”
The teaser gives a sneak peak of the design and styling of the upcoming car concept. The image shows a longer than ever roofline something typically associate with either a wagon or SUV keeping the auto enthusiasts busy in the guess work. Also, there is a doubt that with the BMW iNEXT with which the Bavarians are hoping will help shape the brand’s future can be a wagon, hence it hints towards either a SUV or maybe a crossover. However, looking at the low height of the roofline and aggressively raked windshield, the German automaker might be introducing a ‘coupe like SUV’ or maybe a vehicle sportier than any traditional crossover.
Looking at the future cars of other rivals such as the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes-Benz EQ C, the designing in the teased image doesn’t come up at a surprise as all these vehicles get similar kind of long roofline and none of these are saloons or coupes. Hence, we care expecting something similar from the Bavarian automaker as well.
According to a statement by BMW CEO Harald Krüger, we should see a Vision Concept of this upcoming fully-electric, fully-connected and highly autonomous BMW later this year. The BMW iNEXT will be manufactured at the BMW’s Dingolfing Plant commencing from 2021. This means that the introduction of the production spec BMW iNEXT is quite far but the teaser has definitely created a buzz in the market and the expectations and speculations are going to be increased with each passing day.
