Japanese automaker Toyota is all set to launch the eight- gen Camry Hybrid in the Indian market. Confirming the same, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has listed the all- new model on the local website and released its first teaser as well. The next- gen Toyota Camry Hybrid is scheduled to be launched on January 18, 2018 in the country. Toyota took the covers off the all- new Camry at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show and ASEAN- spec Camry was revealed in Thailand a few months back.
According to the teaser, Toyota will launch only the Hybrid variant of the sedan in India and is completely different from the outgoing model. The sedan is based on the Toyota’s new TNGA platform helping the sedan to grow in size compared to the outgoing model. The eighth generation Camry measures 4,885 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width and 1,445 mm in height with a 2,825 mm wheelbase. This means the new Camry is 35 mm longer and 15 mm wider than its predecessor and gets 50 mm longer wheelbase. In terms of designing, the sedan gets a V- shaped grille that integrates with the headlamps and a large air dam being the prominent highlight of the front end. According to Toyota, it’s the new 'Keen Look' design language. At the rear, the upcoming sedan gets a sleeker pair of taillights along with a boot lip spoiler while riding on 17- inch multi- spoke alloy wheels.
t the inside, the 2019 Camry Hybrid will offer significant changes such as the centre console will get a new eight- inch touchscreen unit with a digital screen for instrument console, practical storage places, soft- touch material, wireless charging, dual- zone climate control, and a spacious cabin with powered seats. Other than these, 10 airbags and a host of active and passive safety equipments will be offered as well.
The international Camry Hybrid features nine airbags, rear cross- traffic alert, lane departure alert, traction control, ABS with EBD, blind spot monitoring system, pre- collision system, hill launch assist and radar-based cruise control as well as automatic LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), a wireless mobile charging pad, a head- up display, eight- way adjustable and ventilated front seats, a three- zone climate control, reclining rear seats and a nine- speaker JBL sound system. We can expect all the features from the international model to be offered in the Indian version as well except for the radar- based cruise control system.
In terms of powertrain, the all- new Toyota Camry Hybrid will get the same 2.5- litre four- cylinder hybrid- petrol powertrain as the existing model. The engine is capable of producing 175 bhp of maximum power and 221 Nm of peak torque which is mated to an 88 kW electric motor. On the other hand, the 208 bhp powertrain will get a six- speed CVT as the only transmission option.
The existing Toyota Camry Hybrid is priced at Rs 29.75 lakhs (ex- showroom, Delhi) and the next- gen model is likely to be priced Rs 50,000 to 60,000 over the current version. Like the outgoing model, the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid will continue to compete with the likes of the Honda Accord Hybrid and the Skoda Superb.
