Meet The Toyota Hilux GR Sport II – A More Hardcore Variant For Europe | V3Cars

Toyota have unveiled the Hilux GR Sport II pick-up truck that boasts several mechanical as well as cosmetic changes over the standard Hilux. As of now, the Hilux GR Sport II is exclusively for the European market and the India-spec Hilux is unlikely to receive the GR Sport treatment anytime soon. Nonetheless, the Hilux GR Sport II should pique the interest of off-road enthusiasts in the country. So let’s take a look at what it offers.

Toyota Hilux GR Sport II Mechanical Changes

The Hilux GR Sport II gets a host of changes over the standard Hilux that make it more capable off-road. First off, the ground clearance has increased from 220mm to 240mm. The increased ride height has improved the approach angle from 29 degrees to 30 degrees.

Meanwhile, the front tyre tread has increased by 140mm while the rear gets a 155mm increase. Toyota claim these changes make the GR SPort II the best Hilux ever, both on and off the road. The increase in tread supposedly increases vehicle stability with reduced roll angle and precise steering response. Other changes include 1-inch larger front disc brakes (17-inches) and 15-inch rear disc brakes that replace the drum units in the standard Hilux. The 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine remains unchanged and continues to produce 204PS of power and 500Nm of peak torque.

Visually, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport II gets an updated grille that looks more aggressive than the standard model. The revised front bumper now features new fog lamp housings and a redesigned silver skid plate. New 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels and GR badges on the front grille and tailgate round up the list of changes on the exterior Hilux GR Sport II.

On the inside, the Hilux GR Sport II gets an all-black treatment with red accents all around. The paddle shifters and foot pedals are made out of aluminium and there are various GR Sport stickers and badges on the dashboard, door pads, instrument cluster and multi-information display. Toyota are also offering the Hilux GR Sport II with a new touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Toyota Hilux GR Sport II Launch Details

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport II is set to go on sale in European markets in the second half of 2024. There’s no word on a possible India launch at the moment. However, with Hilux sale holding steady at a monthly average of around 230 units, Toyota India could consider launching a special edition Hilux sometime in the near future.
