Toyota India have released the first teaser for the Hyryder hybrid SUV ahead of its unveil on July 1. The teaser gives us a sneak peek of the front and rear design of the upcoming compact SUV, which will take on the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, among others. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder will get a split LED headlight design and ‘hybrid’ badging on either side.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is set to become the first strong hybrid SUV in the Indian compact SUV segment. In terms of design, the teaser video reveals the front grille, which comprises of a black bar with the chrome Toyota logo in the middle. On either side of the Toyota logo are thin chrome strips that merge with the LED DRLs. The lower part of the bumper gets sporty-looking grooves and also houses the main headlight cluster.

At the side, the teaser reveals ‘hybrid’ badges on the side fender. In addition to that, we can also see the parking camera mounted on the ORVM. To enhance its SUV appeal, Toyota will also offer side body cladding with the Hyryder SUV. A strip of chrome running below the window pane can also be seen in the teaser video. Around the back, the Hyryder will get a chrome boot garnish and split LED tail lights.

Toyota are likely to offer the Hyryder SUV with two powertrain options — a base mild-hybrid petrol and a strong hybrid petrol. Both engines are likely to make use of a 1.5L petrol engine, sourced from Maruti Suzuki. Toyota have confirmed that Maruti Suzuki will supply the mild-hybrid powertrain whereas the strong hybrid powertrain will be supplied by Toyota. Toyota will manufacture both the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki’s equivalent SUV at their second plant in Bidadi, Karnataka. Toyota will commence production of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in August 2022.
