Hyundai are preparing a new electric SUV for India, and the latest spy shots from South Korea offer a clearer look at what could become the brand's most important mass-market EV yet. While the test mule remains, its proportions suggest Hyundai are developing a compact electric SUV positioned below the Creta Electric.

Based on information available to V3Cars, Hyundai are expected to showcase this new EV in December 2026, with its market launch likely to take place in early 2027.
The latest test mule reveals a tall and upright stance with short front and rear overhangs. Compared to Hyundai's current SUV lineup, the new EV appears closer in size to the Venue and Kia Syros rather than the smaller Exter.
Based on the latest spy shots, we expect the upcoming Hyundai EV to offer:

These dimensions could allow Hyundai to maximise interior room while keeping the overall length around the same ballpark as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
The test vehicle continues Hyundai's recent trend of adopting more upright and boxy SUV styling for its electric models.
Visible design elements include:

The overall silhouette bears some resemblance to Hyundai's globally sold Inster EV, although the India-bound SUV appears noticeably larger and more rugged.
Several spy shots also hint at Hyundai's signature pixel-inspired lighting elements, which have become a design theme across the company's latest electric vehicles.
Once launched, the new Hyundai EV is expected to slot below the Creta Electric in the company's portfolio. This positioning would place it directly against rivals such as:
Hyundai currently lack an EV in this segment, making this model an important addition to their electric vehicle lineup.
Although the cabin has not been fully revealed, Hyundai are unlikely to compromise on features given the competitive nature of the electric compact SUV segment.
Expected features include:

Safety features are expected to include:
Hyundai are yet to reveal any technical details regarding the upcoming SUV. However, global versions of the Inster EV are available with 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs. If Hyundai adopt a similar approach for India, buyers could expect multiple battery options catering to different price points and range requirements.
We also expect the upcoming Hyundai EV to offer fast charging capabilities, which should allow a 10% to 80% recharge in around 30 minutes using a compatible DC fast charger.
Hyundai entered India's EV market early with the Kona Electric and recently expanded its portfolio with the Creta Electric. However, the fastest-growing EV segment in India currently lies below the Rs. 20 lakh price bracket. With its practical dimensions, SUV styling and potentially competitive pricing, this upcoming electric SUV could become Hyundai's highest-volume EV offering in the country. More details are expected closer to its public debut, which our sources indicate could take place towards the end of 2026.
In other news, we expect Hyundai to launch a Bayon-inspired SUV that will sit alongside the current Creta in October 2026. Meanwhile, the next-gen Creta, which is expected to launch in March 2027, is expected to be positioned further upmarket.
