Hyundai are building up the excitement around the Exter. First they revealed the name, then the sketch, and recently, they revealed the front and rear design. Along with the visual treats, they also confirmed the engine options of the Exter. While they haven’t confirmed the performance specs as of publishing this article, we can guess with fair accuracy what we should expect from the Exter CNG and petrol powertrains. In this article, we’ll present the expected displacement, power, torque, transmission and expected mileage figures of the Hyundai Exter 2023.

Hyundai Exter

Update: Hyundai confirmed the engine options of the 2023 Exter on May 8, 2023. This post includes the updated powertrain details based on the currently available information.

Hyundai Exter - Normal Petrol Engine Specs (Expected)

The 1.2L normal petrol engine will serve as the base unit. It will come with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. The Grand i10 Nios also gets this engine and we expect it to make the same power and torque as the Nios 1.2L normal petrol.

With this assumption, we can say that the Exter should offer 83PS of power at 6000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 4000rpm. In terms of fuel efficiency, we expect the Exter petrol to give around 20kmpl mileage with manual as well as automatic transmissions.

Hyundai Exter - Turbo Petrol Engine Specs (Expected)

As for the more powerful, turbo petrol engine, we expect the Exter to get the same, 1.0L, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine as the Venue. This engine makes 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque.

While we’re expecting the Exter to come with a 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission and offer 120PS of power, we may see a slightly less powerful version of this engine. The older Nios had a 100PS engine with the same torque output as the Venue. It also didn’t get the ACMT and had a 5-speed full-manual transmission. For now, we’re betting on the 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission and hoping that it gets the 6-speed ACMT.

As far as the turbo petrol-automatic powertrain is concerned, we expect it to offer the 7-speed DCT. Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger — all 3 offer a more premium automatic transmission with their turbo petrol engines. This widens the potential price band for the Exter and allows Hyundai to offer the advanced dual-clutch automatic transmission without disrupting the price expectations of the buyers.
