Updated 2018 Mini range launched in South African market
The new updated MINI range has launched in the car market of South Africa. The iconic British compact car range has launched in its updated avatar in SA in the 3-door, 5-door and convertible models. However, the Clubman and the Countryman models do not come with updated features list. The facelifted Mini range of cars now boast of a whole host of new technologies and styling upgrades.
The potential Mini car buyers in South Africa will now get to avail the benefit of new engine and transmission combinations, exterior cosmetic updates, an extended range of standard features and upgraded connectivity support for the infotainment system.
In terms of the exterior updates the refreshed Mini range of compact premium cars get new LED headlights along with Matrix function for the high beam mode and new unique LED rear lights which feature the Union Jack graphic as a tribute to the brand’s English origin. The updated range of cars also flaunts a new MINI emblem and improved body finishing in Piano Black as well as newly designed light alloy wheels.
On the inside, the refreshed 2018 Mini range comes with an enhanced range of leather trims, new colour lines as well as refined interior surfaces. There is also a new multi-function steering wheel and a radio with 16.5 cm colour display. Bluetooth interface and USB also come as part of the cars’ standard package. Mini is also offering the radio and navigation systems with an integrated touchscreen display as an option, while wireless charging facility for smart phones also come as an optional feature.
In terms of under the hood updates, the entry level Mini One has got an engine update to a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol from a previous 1.2 litre mill. This has resulted in increased torque by 10 Nm to the current 190 Nm, while power remains same at 75kW.
Mini has tweaked the engines across its range in order to offer enhanced fuel economy while reducing emission levels. However, the most important update has come in the form of a 7 speed double-clutch automatic gearbox which has been endowed on the Mini One, Cooper and Cooper S models.
According to Mini’s German parent company BMW, this new transmission enables faster and smoother shifts that allows excellent sporty acceleration without any torque interruption in the wheels. This new transmission utilizes a new electronic gear selector lever. The Mini Cooper S now comes endowed with shift paddles on the steering wheel to offer amazingly spontaneous gearshifts.
The original Mini range was one of the most successful cars that were ever produced as it sold around 5.4 million units. It was phased out back in 2000 and was replaced by its all new avatar.
After being taken over by BMW, the Mini brand came with a new life and became more popular than ever. Currently, Mini is a marque which is greatly respected and has a huge fan following. Mini brand is celebrated across the globe for its signature styling, luxury in diminutive unique forms and amazing sporty performance.
