Volkswagen have announced new variants for the Taigun GT SUV – the GT Plus manual and GT DCT. The new Taigun GT Plus and GT variants will go on sale soon and help make the performance-oriented SUV more accessible for enthusiasts.

Volkswagen Taigun GT To Get New Variants

At the recently held press conference, Volkswagen India announced new variants for the performance line of the Taigun SUV. Volkswagen will soon offer Taigun GT Plus with a 6-speed manual transmission and Taigun GT with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Currently, the DCT is exclusive to the Taigun GT Plus whereas the manual is only available with the Taigun GT. The introduction of these 2 variants will make the DCT accessible to more buyers whereas those looking for a Taigun 1.5L turbo petrol with a manual transmission get a better ownership experience thanks to the additional features that are available with the GT Plus trim.

Volkswagen Taigun GT Powertrain Details

The performance line GT variants of the Taigun come with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine. It offers 150PS of power at 6000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1600rpm and 3500rpm. This engine offers active cylinder deactivation that shuts off 2 of the 4 cylinders when cruising at a constant speed to aid fuel efficiency. It comes with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission options.

Volkswagen Taigun GT DCT, GT Plus Manual Launch Timeline

Volkswagen are likely to launch the GT DCT and GT Plus manual variants of the Taigun in June 2023. The launch of these new variants will make the DCT option of the Taigun more accessible while also making the manual option more feature-rich. The Volkswagen Taigun will continue to rival other C-segment SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Currently, the Taigun range starts from Rs. 11.62 lakh and goes up to Rs. 19.06 lakh (ex-showroom).
